Mr. Ide recently published th e s ta te m e n t th a t
only about o n e-fo u rth of the suitable a g ric u ltu r­
al land in Oregon w as producing and th a t it all
could be b rought into profitable production. We
asked him to consult the L ane ag ric u ltu ra l ut-
look report and recom m end to us just w hat crops
could he produced profitably in L ane county on
o u r portion of th is land. He replies th a t a g rea t

The outlook report says in its recom m endation
as to dairying th a t "dairying conditions in Lane

T here should be a million g o ats raised in Lane
county, A. C. G age, editor f th e P o rtlan d Angora
Journal, tald a C ottage Grove audience. Mr. Gage
says g o ats are not only profitable for th e m ohair
but also revitalize ru n dow n soil. In th is regard
he points out th at not as m any acres are under
cultivation in the W illam ette valley as th ere were
40 years ago.
