"Peace on earth and good will toward man," in this quotation
from the angels' song which is said to have been sung over nine
teen hundred years ago we have the best definition of Christmas
tpirit. On this the greatest holiday of the calendar year we
break away from the usual hum-drum of our work-a-dny life to
njoy the peace and happiness which prevails throughout the
world on this day of days.
When sitting by the fireside with our loved ones gathered
around us or while walking on the streets observing the good
fellows of various organizations eagerly bent upon their missions
of mercy and good cheer, we begin to winder Just why the world
could not be like this every day of the year Instead of just one
flay or even one week.
Once again we cast aside the formality demanded of us byj
out position in society and awaken In our hearts the spirit of the
child, a spirit containing all of those finer qualities of life which
tend to bind all mankind together In the bonds cf merriment
and kindness. Our cares and ill-feelings seem to vanish as If by
magic, the old world which we have looked upon with so much
disfavor in the past, is again filled with sunshine and happiness
and we come to the conclusion that it is Indeed good to live.
As the church bells peal forth their carol our minds are
turned to the sacredness of the season, for it was upon this day
