The taxpayers of the community voted this Item on the budget for the express purpose of keeping the American flag, and a respectable one, floating at all times over our schools, and it is the duty of the school officials to see that this desire of the people is satisfied. , . ' , ,4 True it is that winter weather is hard on flags, but if the rules of etiquette to the flag, "to keep the flag down during tem pests," be followed faithfully, muck wear and tear will be avoided. As a matter of fact it would be well if all the rules of etiquette, possible, be carefully observed. Within these schools are being taught the youth of America and in many cases future citizens. They are taught by their in structions to love and reverence their nation's flae. it Is true: but -what sort of an impression will be formed in their Immature and undeveloped minds, when they gaze aloft and see not a thing of beauty, but only apiece of beragged and faded cotton bunting To the adult mind it is not the condition of the flag which demands respect, it is the principles for which it stands; but to the childish mind, as yet unable to fully grasp these principles, the appearance of the flag means much. It is said that "as the twig is bent so will the tree grow." Do we or do we not want joung America to respect the flag? . o .
