LANE COUNTY WITH AN ASSESSED VALUATION OF $35,000,000 PROPOSING TO BORROW $2,000000 TO EXECUTE A DEFINITE, POSITIVE ROAD BUILDING PROGRAM, IS JUST SUCH A CASE AS THE THREE CiTED ABOVE. Speaking of borrowing money in sums of $2,000,000 doesn't look tso big when you take all things into consideration. Old Man Lane, with his $35,000,000 assessment, proposing to borrow $o'oo,oOO is negotiating no bigger an undertaking than the .fel low with $330 assessment proposing to borrow $20. The man who 'talks about waiting until he can pay as he goes never goes ahead. Money in the banks is for and used by the progressive men. Hut little progress is ever made except by th aid of borrowed money which makes resources equal to ths demands. The demand for better roads was never greater than it is right now. Advantage cannot be taken of present prosperous conditions unless the markets of the country are brought in communication with the sources of supply, lie who buys is as much a loser as he who has to sell but cannot deliver. AND THE COST OF MARKETING IS OF IMPORTANCE IN ESTABLISHING PRICES. When a producer is obliged to create undue expense in getting to market, whether it be in matter of time, motive power or wear and tear, the chances are the loss is borne equally Ify him and the consumer, if. by but one, he cannot last long.
