(AP Photo/Andy Wong) U.S. wins women’s team gold at gymnastics worlds NANNING, China (AP) — World all-around champion Simone Biles led the United States to the gold medal in the women’s team event at the gymnastics world championships. The U.S. finished with a total of 179.280 points to defend the title it won at the 2011 worlds in Tokyo. Host China was second with 172.587, followed by 2010 champion Russia with 171.462. The U.S. has dominated international competition for most of the last decade and used a victory at the 2011 worlds to propel it to the top of the podium at the London Olympics. Biles survived a rare wobble on the balance beam and scored 15.375 in the final rotation on the floor as the U.S. wrapped up a convincing win over China. KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — China’s Shanshan Feng rallied to win the LPGA Malaysia for her fourth Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour title, playing a six-hole stretch on the back nine in 6 under. The 25-year-old Feng, four strokes behind Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum entering the round, closed with a bogey-free 8-under 63 for a three-stroke victory over Phatlum. Feng birdied holes 11 through 14 to tie Phatlum at 16 under and pulled away with a four-stroke swing when she holed a 10-foot eagle putt on the par-5 16th and Phatlum made a double bogey on the par-3 15th. Feng parred the final two holes to finish at 18-under 266 at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. Phatlum birdied the 16th and parred the last two holes for a 70. She was trying to become the LPGA Tour’s first Thai winner. Sweden’s Pernilla Lindberg and South Korea’s So Yeon Ryu and Chella Choi tied for third at 14 under. Lindberg had a 63, and Ryu and Choi shot 67. Lydia Ko missed a chance to take the No. 1 ranking from Stacy Lewis. NINTH TO FIFTH. (AP Photo/Lai Seng Sin) The 17-year-old New Zealander needed to win and have Lewis tie for 12th or worse. Instead, Ko closed with a 70 to tie for eighth at 11 under. Lewis had a 69 to tie for 21st at 7 under. Feng jumped from ninth to fifth in the world. She previously won the 2012 LPGA Championship, 2013 Reignwood LPGA Classic in China, and 2013 Titleholders. Feng was second last year, four strokes behind Lexi Thompson. The LPGA Malaysia was the second in the tour’s six-event Asia swing. The LPGA KEB-HanaBank in Incheon, South Korea concluded this past weekend, with Kyu Jung Baek winning the cup. The Blue Bay LPGA on Hainan Island in China takes place October 23 through 26.
