SOUTHERN OREGON NEWS REVIEW, THURS., JAN. i j , 194» T ^ N E W S R E V IE W Published evsry Thursday by Now ____ THE SISKIYOU PUBLISHING COMPANY Ashlwui. Oregon W East Main Street Carryl H. Wines and Wendell D. Lawrence, Publishers WENDELL LAWRENCE. Editor __ Sutersd as sacond-cisas mail matter in the post office at Ash land, OiMon, February 15, 1935, under the act of Congress of March 3, 1879. Politics 1 9 4 8 will be a banner political year. Both parties arc in position to really throw some weight about. And here in Jackson county the pot has started boding. Frank Van Dyke, local boy who made good, has his speaker’s chair in the house of representatives. He has phrcc terms in the house. Hilding Bengston, and Bill sitting quietly by, waiting for one or the other to get local Republican Central committee as to which shall fill eye set on the already served McAllister are the nod from Earl Newbry s boots as State Senator. Ben Day, Sam’s Valley orchardist and rancher, is holding his fire until he sees what happens to Bengston and McAllister. Day has his aightr sfct dn Bengston’s poet in case Hilding decides to step upward. That takes care of the Republicans and their candidates. This year we fervently hope the Democrats will take care of their candidate* in order to make it at least almost a 50-50 battle. A little competition would be good for the Republicars. II ■ ......
