The pears are being sent to the commentators and sportswriters to draw attention to the Thanksgiving Pear Bowl game which is being held in Ashland nert week. Members of the committees which are responsible for the game are working hard to make this sportevent a success. Led by Walter Leverette, theater and orchard magnate, the Pear Bowl committee has their game oft to a. head start on any of the rest of the bowl games. Leading off on Thanksgiving day they are a fufl month and more ahead of the rest of the nations bowl spectacles, most of which are set for January 1st, 1947. ith the unbeaten eleven of Southern Oregon college meeting the Central W ashington college of Education, leaders in their league, the fracas should prove to be interesting, both as a football contest, and as an illustration of just what football can do for his tow'n. The crowds which have yearly attended Ashland Fourth of July celebrations should be small compared to the number of people who will show up for a football bow l spectacle. Attendant publicity, brought about, the committee hopes, by the taste of the Rogue valley pears, will focus nation wide attention on the community and the Pear Bowl. One taste of those pears and we believe that the sport writers will succumb to appeal and will write reams of publicity about Ashland and Souhern Oregon college. One glimpse of that football team in action and we re sure that any sportswriter would be glad to turn out lots of copy about it. Al Simpson s boys deserve a lot of attention and this Pear Bowl game is one way of getting it. Rumors are rife that the SONS are in line for a bid to play in the Raisin bowl at Fresno on January 1st. Unbeaten and untied, the SONS, certainly are worthy of considera tion for the Raisin bowl game. Should they win the Pear bowl game next week it is almost a cer tainty that the Southern Oregon college squad will get the Raisin bowl bid. Or, if not that, a bid for some other New Years game. 1 his has been a good year for the Southern Oregon college squad. Results of a winning football team are rarely as great as they have been for this team. Pilgrim Fellowship. Meet at the church 6:30 promptly. From EGGS A R EN ’T ALL ALIKE They look Alike— but . . Ashland 7761 A WORD ABOUT Electric Appliances Shop Early A Pear bowl game; a stadium, to be called the Pear BowJ, are the two most noticeable things which have evolved from the type of foot ball which Southern Oregon college has been playing throughout the year. Now, if the attendant publicity will help draw students to South- - ern Oregon college, and if the annual bowl games turn out like all j the committee hopes; this community will be all the better for it. Southern Oregon college can do Ashland a lot of good. Ashland peo ple can by cooperating and working with the college find that th e 1 entire community is benefited. Tickets for this years Pear Bowl game are going faster than snow on the Fourth of July. If you haven’t bought yours yet you’d better do j so now. The demand, according to the ticket committee is tremendous, 1 with requests for tickets coming in from Burns; Coos Bay; Ellensburg, Washington; and California points. The SONS are numbered among the i j unbeaten, untied teams in I the nation, and this fact, coupled with the fact that they are a color ful outfit has created a lot of interest up and down the coast about Al Simpson and his squad. open boon in fa lc ili , |l h i n p n n l s restau ran t e q u ip m e n t1 M, people” Rev.
