B ut th eir shock, cam e w hen tney looked a t the policy. T here it ap p eared in black and w hite —$o,UUU of in surance: A nd th a t was w h a t the in surance com pan y p aid them . They h ad th eir lot and the $5,000, b u t th e $18,500 t h e y w ere to get for the p ro p e rty had v an ished— b u rn t up by the flam es th a t destro y ed t h e i r hom e. T rue, th e ir l o t w a s w o rth $3,500 an d had only cost $1,700, hut they w ere still out thousands of dollars on the house. W hen they p riced fu r n itu re they found th a t th eir fu rn itu re in su ran ce was also grossly inadequate. A n e x tra $10,000 insurance on house and fu rn itu re w ould have cost them $7 5 for th ree years. They w ould h ave g lad ly ta k e n it o u t if th ey had th o u g h t enough ab o u t it, b u t no one had su ggested it to tnem . B ill a n d S u san a re n ’t the only ones w ho h ave o v erlook ed keeping th e ir in su ran ce up- to -date on to d ay ’s values. T h ere are v ery few people who h av e n ’t M ost of th em are ju st lik e Bill and Sue— they ju s t h a v e n ’t th o u g h t ab o u t it. H ave you?
