I'l R YI \R Death Takes Retired Business Man Saturday Service* Held Tuesday For Well Known Grocery Store Owner Funeral services were held at the Litw iller Funeral Chapel Tues day morning for William Jesse Dougherty, who died at his home ut 25 Granite Street Saturday, December 8, Mr. Dougherty had been in failing health for the past five years, but was able to be down at his grocery store on the Plaza the day of his death. Mr. Dougherty was a retired groceryman, having ue«n in busi ness here for the past 38 years. Ills store, which bears his name, hus been under other m anage ment since he retired a few years ago. Mr. Dougherty was born July 3, 1887 ut Covington, Kentucky. He was a member of the Masonic- lodge and the Methodist Church and was active in hoth until heal th forced him to gi'.c up some of the work. Dr. George W. Bruce of the Methodist church officiated ut the services. Interm ent was mude in the Mountain View cemetery. Survivors include four children Mrs, II. S. Harrison, Miss Edna Dougherty and Mrs. M argaret Rush of Ashland and a son, Frank Dougherty of Dunsmuir, and n grandson. The usual num ber handled in one day, it was re ported, was about 300 and the Thursday figure is reported to have been a state record, the larg- st number previously being 341.
