On Monday evening of this
week the Ladies of the Methodist
Church sponsored a covered dish
dinner program honoring the
Methodist instructors in the col­
lege and ':ie public schools of
Ashland, and the Methodist col­
lege students, and those students
who designated no church pref­
erences. The party was held in
the lovely church parlors warm­
ed by the glowing embers of the
fireplace. Following the dinner,
which was served by the memb­
ers of the Young Married Peoples
Class, the group enjoyed several
quartet numbers sung by Bob
Lytle, V. Mittag, Paul Byers ,and
Ed Nelson. Dr. Bruce gave a brief
address of welcome. This was
followed by a community sing
and a ‘get-acquainted’ period.
The ‘singspiration was led by
Mrs Lucille McKay, Mrs. Delia
Weber at the piano.

MEDFORD—The name of Dr.
A. Erin Merkel, Jackson county
health officer, has been placed on
the national health honor roll by
the second session of the Ameri­
can Public Health association in
New York city, according to
word received here. Dr. Merkel
was one of 64 health officers in
this country and Canada to be
so honored.

MEDFORD, The jury list for
the October term of the Jackson
county circuit court, starting Oct­
ober 23, contains the names of
farmers for the first time in five
month. At a previous session,
most of the jurors were house­
wives, with farmers eliminated,
due to the urgency of farm work.

sure,” Farrell declared.
