county, County Clerk George Carter of Medford is
unopposed in the primary and his reelection will be
both deserved and wise. Carter has earned the re
spect of voters from both parties by his efficient,
friendly work.
•
COUNTY TREASURER—Ralph E. Sweeney of
Medford, a democrat, also is unopposed in the pri
mary and his is another case of earned reelection.
Sweeney’s banking experience has enabled him to
place county records and handling of money in such
an orderly manner that any lay person can readily
understand the exact status of all county and school
funds every day in the year. Sweeney, like Republi
can Carter, is a bright spot on the record of his
party.
FOR COUNTY CORONER—Both candidates for
the coroner’s position are well qualified, both have
proved their ability. In Ashland the question largely
resolves itself around the detail of preference in
deputy coroners- Dodge for Per), Litwiller for Con
ger. Both candidates are republican and past custom
has been to alternate the post from one group to
• the other about every eight years.
OTHER CONTESTED OFFICES—Being less
sure of ourselves from here on out, we’ll leave the
rest to those who are more fully informed on the
remaining candidates.
