SOUTHERN OREGON MINER seems that the Chief left the Lithian fold, tired of it all, and, upon his signing with Medford, was given employment us a noble but entirely secondary gesture In fact, Manager Rickert did the right thing by Ashland and tipped Manager Jack Balding off to sev eral |ilayers in the vicinity of the valley town who were offering their services. On the surface it appears that such a trade, where one club bar ters several players for the star of another club, ahould ire accom panied by a sizeable lump sum of cash to sort of balance the deal say, .50,900. or thereabouts! No mention has been made of such provision, however, but poor Bald ing 1« fast becoming a nervous wreck from haunting the post of fice In anticipation of the check which will even up the affair.
