Adams for City Recorder City Recorder James Q. Adams was elected four years ago on the following platform, each plank of which has been fulfilled during the last four years: 1. An audit of city books. Adams promised a comprehensive audit of city accounts. This was done for three years, with this year’s audit al ready under consideration. 2. A budget for the city by departments. Previous to Adams’ term of office, city budgets never in cluded water and light department estimates. This has been accomplished this year. 3. An accounting system. The city of Ashland was the first municipality in Oregon to install a mod ern municipal accounting system in compliance with a recent state law. This new system is in complete operation. 4. Publicity on city expenditures. Complete pub licity has been given the people through the press during Adams’ term of office. He has served you faithfully and honestly, fairly and economi- 'cally, with dignity and justice to all. i Buzz Brown, northwest feather weight champion, successfully de fended his title Monday night at the Medford armory when he won a six-round technical knockout over Al Mustola, Spokane con- tender, in their scheduled 10- round championship bout. Mustola had a slight edge over Brown during the first several rounds but lacked the stamina to keep up the gruelling pace that Brown set and early in the sixth round the champ landed a hard left to the head and followed it up with piston-like rights and lefts that would have ended in a com plete knockout if his seconds had not thrown in a towel. The semi-final six-round match also ended in a technical knock out by Sonny Enders, Klamath Falls pride of the ring, over Ray Morgan, Portland flash. Enders completely outclassed the plucky and game Morgan and a series of knockdowns early in the fifth caused the seconds to heave in the towel. A game but far outclassed Ray Lutman, of Grants Pass, lost a special six-round match to Joe Lopez, negro of Phoenix, Ariz., in a decision. Two four round pre liminaries that ended in draws were put on by Red Melbourne and Dave Morris of Klamath Falls, and Tong Ortis of Klamath and Gilbert Jonas, of Dairy, Ore. Grants Pass at Ashland (non conference ). While Ashland was idle last week. Medford high’s high-scoring Tigers blasted Grants Pass from the conference race 31-7 before 3,200 persons. At no time did the Cavemen threaten a Medford team which compares, in all respects, with any of Prink Callison s won der teams. Following are a few of his accomplishments, giving due credit to the present efficient coun cilmen and the men who served with him the first three years: Saved several thousand dollars through reorganization of the light, water and street departments Less costa for operation, more income to city through efficiency, a reduction of about $20,000 in the operation of these departments alone. Reduced taxes $10,000.00 through next year’s budget. Assisted in securing over $900.000 00 in road construcUon in and near Ashland. Assisted in securing adequate relief for Ashland citizens. Improved the equipment for use in our utilities. Improved buildings, offices, streets and has kept up power and water lines. Hospital Improvements: x-ray machine, heating plant were installed.
