OLD GLORY 50c ASHLAND GRANITE Ashland Chamber of Commerce is inaugurating a campaign for the use of Ashland granite in the con struction of the new State capitol. This is a gratifying move and now that it has finally been launched, should be a hot one and receive the hearty cooperation and support of all local citizens and organizations, as well as that of the boost bodies of the entire state. Plans for an intensive campaign were discussed Wed nesday at a meeting in Medford. Gordon McCracken, secretary of the local chamber of commerce, and Will iam Blair, manager of the Blair granite quarry here, A. H. Banwell of the Jackson county chamber of com merce and Robert Duff, chairman of the county cham ber of commerce industrial committee, talked matters over and mapped out plans of action. Chambers of commerce all over the state will be asked to join in the move to have native stone used in construction of the state capitol. State pride should de mand the use of state material if such material is found to be available. The Miner doesn’t need to say that it is highly pleas ed with the move for an active state-wide campaign for the consideration of Ashland granite for use in the capitol project. This newspaper began urging such a move almost as soon as funds for the capitol were ap propriated by the legislature. Miner comments and edi torials were reprinted in many of the leading news papers in the state. In seme quarters there was a persistent effort from the start to make it appear that Vermont marble was the only suitable stone for the work.
