(Continued on page two) Ordinance or No Ordinance, Brats Will Manna Is Not All That Comes from the Heavens .. ♦ A dove may be the emblem of peace, but it is beginning to look as though pigeons are going to precipitate a war in Medford unless an ordinance prohibiting their breed ing within city limits is passed. It seems that pigeons have a certain way of cooing and tittering back and forth about sunup every morning. In fact, we have heard several Medfordites complain sleep ily that they must arise with the pigeons, close windows, stuff cotton in their ears and then try and get back to sleep. And as if|that were not enough, the pig eons, after ^awakening everyone in the neighborhood, have a penchant for popu larizing the carrying of umbrellas in clear weather and leaving their tell-tale mark on roofs, awnings and store fronts. Many a shiny automobile hood has carried mute evidence that someone is breeding a flock of pigeons in the neighborhood, while sev eral stores have found it neceáfeary to re place awnings long before their time. Irate home-owners complain that when they paint a r>of green they don’t want some neighbor’s pets changing the color scheme. The noise, the mess, the general nuisance of the birds within the city’s con fines is getting some residents’ goats, and we don’t blame them a bit. Of course, any comment on pigeons must necessarily enter into delicate territory. Al though everyone knows just why pigeons are such a pest few of us like to think about it or admit what it is about them we don’t like. But the Medford city dads should find it easy to devise some protection for suffer ing homeowners, cussing awning buyers and nauseated pedestrians. Pigs, cattle, horses and such have been barred from the cit^ of Medford’s confines. So why not pigeons? We over here in Jacksonville are merlly comfhenting—-possibly on something that is none of our business. True, we allow cows to be kept in our own little town, but then again, cows can’t fly.
