A. Banks, in his Thursday morning’s “Once in a While’’ column, calls upon the good citi zens of Jackson county to “Issue a mandate to our duly consti tuted grand jury ... a mandate, the significance of which can not be misunderstood or ig nored!” We wonder If he refers to a mandate similar to one which he allegedly issued to the grand jury foreman over the telephone that "If The Miner editor was not Indicted within 24 hours for writing articles about Banks, be would be shot.” The threat was made some two weeks ago and was followed by a gun permit being issued the weekly publisher. REGULARLY I issues were printed for free is suance over the number required for regular distribution. That the press operated by my self, was equipped with an auto matic counter to register the num ber of issues of the paper printed and I was Instructed by the circu lation manager of said paper, after the press had stopped, to turn up the number of issues by hand, to show the issuance of approximately fifty-one hundred and fifty issues of said paper, and in accordance with said instructions, I did so. That when Earl H. Fehl of Med ford, Oregon, was connected with the said paper, he Instructed me to sign a statement to the effect that the total publication of said paper was approximately 5150 issues, to correspond with the number of is sues printed at the top of the front page of said paper, which instruc tions were followed out by me for about one week.
