The Jacksonville Miner Thumber Thwarted in Effort to Overpower Benevolent Motorists Outstanding Nate and Clifford Sargent, who live on upper Applegate, drove to Klamath Falls last week and while on the way home had an adven ture that might have proved ser ious. About 15 miles out from Klamath they came up to a man. walking, and very kindly allowed him to ride in the back seat and at the same time giving him some lunch. Becomine suspicious of the man. Clifford, who was driving, began to watch him in the mirror. It was well he did so for suddenly the man arose to his feet with a weap on and struck Nate a vicious blow on the head. Clifford had seen the move in time to stop the car so sdudenly that he spoiled the man’s aim and threw him forward so that he was leaning over the back of the seat. Then Nate, who had been struck but not stunned by the blow, seized the man around the neck with his arm. In the struggle that followed a glass of the car was broken but j the man was overcome- put out of the car and given a goc’j start down the bank by the roadside. The Sargents started up at once and went on their way, the only damage having been a broken door glass and an egg-sized lump on Nate’s head.
