Vanderhoof, th contractor who la repairing- the ramshackle of a building on th northwest corner of Fourth and Alder streets, was arrested this morning on warrant charging; htm with violating the ordinance governing such work) within th Are limits. He deposited $20 ball and was released from custody. Later In th day 8. L. Brown, lessie of th building, tor Whom warrant was also out on a sim ilar charge, went to the police station and gav himself up. Th carpenters at work on th Interior of th building, behind barred doors, did not stop, however. Instead, work waa pushed with renewed vigor; all the men being employed for whom pac could be found. It waa the Intention to complete th, repairs planned before th pending legal proceeding, could be ended, and then the city could do nothing. This waa n th advice of an attorney. Hearing of this, City Attorney MoKary prepared to have warrants issued for the arrest of every man working .on th building. This had the desired effect - -Hearing of this at 11:30 o'clock, Brown and Vanderhoof called upon 'Mr. McNary and asked tor a Mttl more time, agreeing to hav every man at work about the place away from there at 1 o'clock this afternoon. They said that they would top th carpenter Immediately and that all they wanted the other time for was to get the lumber piled outside, Into . the building. f2Ar. MoNary agreed to this, but has blank warrant ready to serve at any time work Is found going on. Brown and Vanderhoof atated that they .would Ilk to meet with th fire conunt? sloner and apply tor a permit to repair th building, and at the earn time state their case. Then It th permit waa refused they were willing to let th court decide the as. This will probably mean a long and bitter -trial. ,-x - . Want Avenue Opened.
