appears that Crothers entered a running

er over a mountain divide to another. Of

enay river has become demoralized, and,
as a result, the steamer owned by a pri

the other sld of the watershed flowed
the Columbia, and into -this river tha

The course ot the two rivers Is peculiar,
and at one' point, at rather high alti
tude, they come close together. ; Some
years ago the Government undertook1 to
build a canal, but it was not a success,
and the unused locks have fallen Into
a state of disrepair. . It was by this course
that the boat was taken by means of
massive derricks. The short distance was

big pool room at Forty-second street and
Lexington avenue conducted by deputies
of District Attorney Jerome, James Mc
Coy, was shot through th head and sev

fleeing gamblers were slightly , injured.
The raiding party, headed by Deputy Dis
