The constitution of the United States as a supreme
law of our beloved country has withstood many se­
vere attacks during its 48 years of existence. It
has proven the bulwark of American liberty, jus­
tice and the freedom of speech and will continue
as the basic law of our country if the American
people will study and consider the advantages of
our form oi government as against the despotic
governments of Europe.
The constitution is the only hope of the American
people for the preservation of life, liberty, and
justice.
It provides for an orderly and fair method where­
by the people themselves may change their system
of government in line with economic and social
conditions.
Today many of our citizens both in official capa'
city and those in unofficial capacity who have list­
ened to foreign agitators are determined to unsurp
powers and establish dictators who would immed­
iately remove those privileges which the American
people so dearly love and which are denied the peo­
ple in those countries where dictators have been
established.
Our Constitution specifically provides for a distri­
bution of the affairs of government in three bran­
ches—Legislative, Executive and Judicial.
The
one branch of the government which is invested
with permanancy and which is independent of
changing public opinion is the Judicial branch of
the government represented by the Supreme Court
of the United States. It stands as a guardian of
the constitution and regardless of the ever sway­
ing public opinion on current issues it guides its
course in accordance with our supreme law. It is
the balance wheel in our governmental machine
and maintains a judicial poise while other depart­
ments of the government are swayed by fluctuat­
ing “gusts” of popular opinion.
It behooves all of us ft* seriously consider these
things on September 17th, the day set aside as
Constitution Day.
Know your constitution, its
purposes, and its aims, and then perform your part
as a citizen by upholding and defending every pro­
vision of that constitution against the attacks by
both the classes and the masses. Adhere to the
principles of the constitution and we will continue
as a government of the people.
