V >\ tv >\ a - V ^5 it i J R IT Z T H E A T E R LEADERSHIP In the American Home W hat makes a nation great? The industrialists who develop its resources? Diplomats who weave its interests through the great pattern of the world? The answer is a paradox— “ Yes, all of these— yet mine of these.’’ For what need would we have of banks— or business— documents—or ships to cross the sea— without the great multi tude known to all nations as the American people? livery American, in every American home, makes this nation great by the might of muscle wi h which he toils— the courage with which lie builds for his family’s future— the idealism in his heart— and the faith in his soul. It is to these Americans that the leaders in civic and business life listed below wish to express, their hearty felicitations and wishes for a continuation o f the power and unit of an American family. These men, outstanding in their separate professions and busi nesses, constitute a very great part in the success and increasing growth of Portland and vicinity— by their unending cooperation in all endeavorers that will aid their city, state and county— they are truly Americans. W e believe they are leaders all, because they are home lovers — highly deserving of the patronage of every true American citi zen. They believe that in our homes lies the destiny of the future, and to this end they are endeavoring to bring new untold prosper ity dreams to materialization. Let us, then, step forth from our thresholds and say with gratitude and conviction— “ Ours is a great nation, with such citi zens as these.” Mitchell, Lewis & Staver Portland.
