In the eighteen months following the NRA there were 3,214 labor disputes in which 32.220,144 working day« were lost. These cost the employes $106,- 323,958, the employers $29,239,087, and the public $629,437,830. Section 7-A may have given organized labor some moral victories but their lo»>es in hours of work and wages have been tremendous. While strikes and walk out« were almost tripling in numb« the cost to the public was increasing mote than 300 per cent. A new industry Is being built up for Portland by the Oregon Rubber Mat Manufacturing company, with it« plant at 2428 Northeast Union ave nue makes rubber mats of all varíe tie*. , Present capacity of the plant is about 30 finished mats each day, but machinery now being installed is ex pected to triple production. Orders have been received from many east ern cities, and from as far away as the Hawaiian island. The factory has been in operation about a year.
