You know yourself how hurt you would be if she didn’t get you one of those ties about which ,-you could boast to your men friends that “ you had to wear it once just so the little girl’s feelings wouldn’t be hurt.” And you know, and they know, that you want to let the world know that the “ little girl” strug gled with the other women to get to the center of the tie corni er so she could pick out some thing for you in her sweet and loving ignorance. \ K 7 Everybody, Especially Parents, Know What It Is. Look Ahead and Save fo r Months to Provide Pleasure and Happiness . for Kiddles. There were four fatalities in Oregon due to industrial accidents during the week ending December 14, according to a report prepared by the state in dustrial accident commission. The victims were: H. H. Nestle, mill work er, Eugene; W. W. Mead, logger, Ma- pleton; A. H. Johnson, foundryman, Portland, and Prank Arnott, wood bucker, North Bend. A total of 505 accidents were reported for the week. Plans for an elaborate summer club house and hunting lodge, to be the equal of any game association club house in the northwest, were drawn up at the meeting of the Santiam Pish and Game Protective association held at Albany. The association, which comprises several sportsmen and am ateur huntsmen clubs of Linn county, plans to build the clubhouse at Clear lake, one of the most beautiful loca tions in the west. To move the entire perishable fruit crop in the states of Oregon, Washing ton and Idaho would require every re frigerator car in the United States for one trip between the place of produc tion and the markets, according to H. H. Corey, a member of the Oregon pub lic service commission, who has been in Washington for several weeks at tending the railroad merger hearing before the interstate commerce com mission. Mr. Corey said he was told that the recent car shortage was not due to a lack of carriers, but was the result of insufficient motive poiver. OU know what Christmas is, says Eugene Wood, In the Delineator. In a manner of speaking, it is a kind of Sunday. Six days of the week the Ideal set before you is to have the alarm clock wake you ; to gobble down your breakfast before you are thoroughly roused; to rush to the shop and get your overalls on before the whistle gets done blowing or to be docked an hour’s time; to work like Scott Ward, 75, native of Oregon and a nailer till noon, -when you look into your dlnnei>pail to see what the old pioneer resident of Linn county, died lady has put up there for you, and at his home in' Albany after three warm your coffee on the steampipe; months’ illness. to begrudge the time for that lunch eon; to lick into your work again till six o'clock, with the foreman saunter ing up and down, watching that you don’t take too many drinks of water, or get a chip in your eye too often, or gas too much with the man next you; to get home so tired that you fall asleep reading the newspaper after supper—the same thing over again to morrow and the next day and the next day and the next day, all your life long. That’s business. But Christmas comes along. You tell your little ones that awful whop per about Santa Claus and his rein deer, add they, to whom you are the pattern of truthfulness, stand and lis ten to you with their jaws hanging C A L L F O R IT loose and their eyes looking like hard- boiled eggs with the shells off. And A T Y O U R G RO CER S the older ones aid and abet you in the deceit, and help the little ones com pose their sprawling letter to old Santa, asking for dolls and skates, and choo-choo cars and all such extrava- ces, when you ought to be saving your money against a rdiny day. And you skimp yourself of necessary food to buy these follies, and sit up TH E STO RE W H E R E nights wasting your strength for the next day (which really doesn’t belong to you, since your boss buys it and pays for It), and when 11 o’clock, Christmas eve, comes, and you get down from the chair, having hung up the last gilt ball or glass peacock, you are so tuckered you can hardly stand. But you turn out the gas and light the candles to see how pretty it all looks, and your wife says: “ Won’t she be tickled, at this! And won’t he jump for joy when he sees that!” and you put your arm around her, and the twinkling candles swim before your sight, and your throat kind of chokes Y Cherro Flour ‘THE REDEMPTION” Aurora and this vicinity will be fav ored with £ the great American play ‘ ‘The Redemption,” when on next Thursday night, December 28, the Orpheus Players o f the Woodburn Dramatic Stock Company will appear here for one night only at the Aurora Band Hall.
