1 Mr. Adler has ample capital, knows his
' business, and It is an actual loss to this
BRICK HOTEL, town that he Is driven out of It by high
rents. This crabbing of every dollar In
sight has done Sumpter more Inrin than
all other influences combined, and unless
property holders show a disposition to let
their tenants get some return for labor
and money invested in business, these
evil results will be lutensilied. Business
doesn't justify the rents charged. Some
people may think it unwise to make this

Why Carl Adltr Leaves Sumpter.
Carl Adlrr was in town Monday. He
lias decided not to continue his store here.
His reasons tor taking this course are
pregnant with suggestions to property
holders and those who are endeavoring to
build up this town. He says that the
business done since starting here four or
live mouths since has been entirely satis
lactory, up to tlir last day before his store ,
was burned out; but the trouble is It costs
too much to conduct a mercantile business.
Por the little storeroom he is now in he
pays ?7S a month rent, and his insurance ,
re.uhes tlie prohibitive rate of 10 per cent.
