Wednesday, April 18. 1900. THE SUMPTER MINER. 11 A Man Among Men ! copyrighted A man with strong nerves and a clear brain, a man with vigorous physical strength, who knows no pain or suffering, is a man to be admired and envied. You can be just such a man if you so will it. What has been done can be done again. As my Dr. Sanden Electric Belt has cured hundreds and thousands of others, it can cure you, if you will give it an opportunity. "But I have been suffering for years." Perhaps you have, but that makes but little difference. It only takes a little longer to do the work. I have yet to find a case of Rheumatism, Lumbago, Sciatica, varicocele or Weak Back that my Belt can not cure. Send for my little book it which explnlns nil. It will be sent free to any address upon reauest. If convenient cull and examine the Belt and test the cuirent. Consultation and advice free. Three Classes of Men" DR. A. T. SANDEN Dept. 19. Russell Building, Portland, Oregon COLORADO MEN COMING. Have Heard Favorably of the Sumpter Dis trict for Monthi Past. H. M. Barnett, of Denver, a Colorado mining man of long experience, arrived In Sumpter this week. He has not had time to examine the district, but says that from what he has learned from men In whose judgment he has confidence, there is no question but what this is destined to be a great gold mining country. Mr. Barnett brings cheerful intelligence from Colorado. He says that mining men there have heard much favorable comment on the Sumpter district during recent months, and that many will come here during the -present season. They would be now arriving daily, were it not for the fact that they are not posted on conditions existing here; they have noi idea that the season is so far advanced, that snow has pr.ictic.-ill all disappeared and that the hills are already inviting prospectors to begin operations. The district needs nothing so much this season as it does the presence of a few hundred experienced prospectors and miners. All such who have examined the surrounding country unite in declaring that it Is a mineral wonder. They are also unanimous in declaring that it has not been Intelligently prospected. Men from Colorado and Montana know this, their business, and will find theVlch hid den treasures. And they are coming to accomplish that very purpose. More Street Improvement. Property holders on Cracker street are now discussing the proposition of paving that thoroughfare. The plan is to plank it from the railroad track to High street, , a distance three blocks. This is to be done, in a measure, as a counter move on the part of owners of Vinson's addition to divert the travel from therethrough that property. Incase the property owners agree to this, the road will be Improved beyond High street across Powder river. Such commendable rivalry as this Is what builds up towns. Nearly half of Granite street is planked, and the contractors are rushing the work, which was delayed for a few days owing to the rain last week. The grading on Mill street is well under way, with a large force of men at work. Owners of lots south of the railroad track have not yet definitely decided to improve that portion of the street. Again Baker Paper Extend S. V. Road. The e.tenslon of the Sumpter Valley railroad, about which so much has been said recently, is now certain to take place. Twelve carloads of rails were at Salt Lake yesterday en route to this city. They will be used betwten Baker City and Mc Ewen in repairing the narrow gauge road and putting it In better condition for the heavy traffic between here and Sumpter. The remainder of the rails for the work of extending the line are to be here early in June, by which time the repairs to the Sumpter line will be completed. Joseph A. West, formerly superintendent of the Sumpter Valley railroad, but of late su perintendent of construction of the Utah and Pacific road, will be in Baker City in a few days to take charge of the work and also to superintend the extension of the line. Baker Democrat. Honorable George J. Barrett. George J. Barrett, of the May Queen mine, near the Red Boy, returned to Sumpter Sunday evening from Portland, where he went as a delegate from Grant county to the state and congressional conventions. Mr. Barrett was the nomi nee for joint representative for the five counties of Sherman, Wasco, Wheeler, Gilliam and Grant.
