Wednesday, January 31, 1900. THE SUMPTER MINER. 0 INCREASED CAPACITY. Sumpter Lumber Co.Prepar- tag for Heavy Demand. ' i iThe Sumpter Lumber company' mill is shut down for repairs for a few days. The wjnter season is usually selected for over hauling machinery, but owing to heavy demand at this time, it has been Manager Stoddard's intention to deviate from the custom this winter and keep the mill run ning. During the past few weeks, how ever, he has decided that the demand for lumber during the coming months, espec ially in the spring, will be so great that tKese repairs are absolutely necessary, in order to continue operations during the rush that he no a- looks for with certainty. The most Important improvement being made is the replacing of the old boilers with new ones, of too-horse power, which will not only Increase the capacity of the mill about fifty per cent, making the daily output 45.000 feet of lumber, as well as furnishing steam heat and power for the hot air blast used in the dry kilns. "At present the company has a half mill Ion feet of logs piled up within one mile of town, waiting for sufficient snow to make good sleighing, so that they can be hauleutothemlll. When the mill starts up again it will be for a long, continuous run, with every facility and convenience fir the largest possible production. Storm King Group Incorporated. JThe six mineral claims constituting the Storm King group, located three or four miles out from Summer on McCullv' Fork, have been selected by the Sumpter Free Gold Mining company as its chief base of operation. Work commenced there December 14 and has been con stantly prosecuted with a force of seven miners. At this date anUo-foot tunnel has been driven to cross cut the parallel l3ges found on the claims. There are known to be five distinct veins; that on the Storm King claim running at right an gles, cutting the formation of the others. This cross cut is expected to tap the first Ifclge at about too feet; the second one at 150 or 175 feet and the third at 250 feet in depth. The first ledge is said to contain surface values of $12, and is expected to show something unusual at the above depth. The ledge matter is a beautiful blue quartz, characteristic of the district from whlch'lt 'comes. The directors and officers of this company are of the class of men to carry out all representations made by them, which is that of active develop mentthe only means of making a mine.
