Evidently while still writhing under the poisoned pain of a wounded heart; Cupid having apparently inserted his arrow and then snatched It out, crully lacerating that popularly supposed organ of the af fectionswhile laboring under this influ ence, actuated by this powerful Incentive, THE MINER staff artist has done a study in black and white that Is destined to win for him, on Its merits, fame equal to that forced upon the painter of the picture by Kipling's lines designating the evil spirit therein portrayed ns "a rag and a bone and a hank of hair." This local pro duction represents the little blind dlety doubly blindfolded, tied fast to a broken shaft, hands and feet secured with log chains, robbed of his bow and quiver. Then the artist, In a spirit of splenetic re venge, crowns the captive, source of all man's troubles, with a wreath of chestnut burrs, evidently meant as a reference to that nut's slangy significance. The picture needs no name. Pottoflicc Bufinm Ever IocicMlng. The postoffice business is growing is naturally growing with the town, and that so rapidly that no calculation can be made for its needs from week to week. For ten days or two weeks past, since former Assistant Postmaster Foreman re signed and his place was taken by Robert Kahler, who, of course, was unfamiliar with the businsss, there has been consid erable delay in distributing the mails. There has also been much complaint, but this should be directed against the depart ment, and not Postmaster Kahler, who Is evidently doing all he can to serve the convenience of the public. Between the time that the mall arrives and the general delivery window is opened, both western and eastern bound mails must be made up. Then, too, the amount of mall handled grows larger every day. In his efforts to expedite business, Mr. Kahler has added Miss Hattie Mack to the force, at his own expense, of course. Job printing at this office.
