An announcement to thia effect wa mare today by President John Gricr Hibben of Princeton University. On that date the memorial to the Princeton hero dead, which for the last six month hat been under construction at Prince ton, will be dedicated, and memorial tervicet will be held simultaneously in every city, town or hamlet in the United StaU-a where there are Prince ton men. The program for these tervicet will j be given at the aame timj in all plac es. A "minute of silence" is included in the program, to 'be observed by Princeton men in memory of their fallen fellow collegian. The dedication exercise and mem orial services in communities going by eastern time will occur at 6:30 p. m. The time for the meetings in other places will be arranged accordingly. Here is where the spirals or grooves are cut in, one at a time, by a cutter on the end of a rod which take off a very thin shaving of the steel as it is drawn through the bar rel. The cutter ia stationary and the barrel is drawn backward and forward by the machine and turned at the tame time to give the proper pitch or twitch. The steel is shaved away to exactly the aame depth for each groove and carefully measured to less than .0001 of an inch variation depth and bore. What thia means can scarcely be imagined but take your ruler and look at the inch measure, then try in your mind to divide the inch into 1000 parts.
