That Bathing Suit
- This is the time of year when ar
gument rages hotly at every bathing
beach aa to what is modest and prop
er attire for swimmers. Women
swimmers more especially, since men
bathing suits are of a standard hil
eousness which receives and merits
little attention.
No bathing suit can be any more
modest than the conduct of its wear
er. Annette Kellerman, an accom
plished swimmer and beautiful wom
an, chose for her swimming garb a
close-fitting, one-piece garment which
did not hinder her progress in the
water any more than a fish's scales
hinder the f.th "".fet she ru not ac
cused of imi.iod.sly. The reason s
that she dresj d appropriately foriVe
thing she was going to do, ar.d then
sne aia me mini,- (or which she was
dmied. When she had finished swim
ming and diving, she disappeared and
clothed herself in suitable street at
tire, or she sat on the beach and made
no effort to attract the attention of
the beach flirt or loafer.
Their heavy, cumbersome garment
explain why most women never learn
to swim. While the Annett Keller
man suits may be considered extrem
by the average woman, the -one who
wishes to learn easily and enjoy swim
ming to the utmost - will at least
choose a iit of straight and sim
ple lines, with skirt both, scant and
short. Then, if she will devote her
. attention to her sport, the public will
devote little attention to her.
Aa for the common and indecent
of both sexes who too frequently in
fest the public beach, they shouid be
sent away or put under arrest, just

A Way To Get Rich
There is said to be a man

along. Most people's expenses grow
with their wealth, but his decrease.
He has a system for getting rich and
staving rich that is very simple, and
wili surely work if anybody wants
to apply it.
He started many years ago aa a
laborer. He quit sniokjng and drink
ing, not because he objected to them
morally, but becajse they cost money
That was all right.
Then he stoped paying car fare and
railroad fare for the same reason.
He never went anywhere that he
couldnt walk. He kept away from
the theatre and other places of enter
tainment. Ho never gave any mon
ey to the church or to any form of
charity. He drove his wife and three
children from home because it cost
money to support them.
He went to bed always as sundown
to save light' and heat. He never
bought any good clothes. He stop
ped paying Is unary bills. He raised
much of his own food, and cooked It
himself. He lived on $50 to $100 a
year, and put all the rest of his in
come into real estate. All his wealth
now is in land and holies. He him
self in a shack. Of course he has no
newspapers or magazines or books
or music or comfortable furniture.
There yoi are! Anybody can get
rich that way, if he will only set his
mind to it, and keep at it everlast
ingly. Its' a sure recipe for success
if anybody is interested in that kind
of success.
COWS GOING ABROAD '
Another American army is being
prepared for early transportation
overseas. It is an army of milk cows
wanted to replace hundreds of thou
sand of cows killed during the war.
France wants 150,000 American
cows. There are Belgian orders for
100,000 more. Counting others scat
tered ordersabout 600,000 are wanted
as early as possible.
The shortage of milk in the war-rav
aged countries has been one of the
great causes of suffering amonirs the
children. When American herds get
on the job in their new homes there
will be a general improvement
