KSTABLISHED IN 1865 THl RSDAY, FFHRIARY IS. 1919 WILSON IN FRANCF. When President Wilson went to France a few weeks ajro he was re ceived with open amis and hailed es one of the preatest men of all time. News dispatches yesterday state that now he "couldn't he elected justice cf the peace of Paris." General animos ity to President Wilson has arisen in Paris over his stand on the learue of nations. The rest of France dins not aeem to he taking the matter so mart to heart But Mr. Wilson and Lloyd Georpe, premier of Great Britain, are treated with coolness by many in the French capital. The reason for this is apparent. Before the war ended and for roanv months before that, President Wilson , advocated a peace with justice to all However despicable the Hun is ami with what little rijrht he has to ex pect justice at the hands of the allies. the entente is morally bound to keer the agreements made durinr the war. rranee and Belgium, still sufTerin- from the atrocities of the terrible Boche, can see nothinsr but stern ret ribution in return for the terrors that her people have jrone through. Many in France would now move the French frontier up to the Rhine and demanl heavier penalties than were thought of a few months aro before the weight of the United States tippel the balance and brought Germany to her knees. In considering these stories com me from France due allowance must 'be made for the French temperament and for the state of mmd France is still hoUnur. Accused in Paris of bainc too lenient with Germany, President ' -Wilson is doinir his best to exact just j punishment for that nation of mur-j derers and robbers and yet frame a' peace that will be lastine and not cm- ' tain material that will lead to ajwrr- j er break as soon as the conqitered nc tion is able to strike another blow. President Wheeler very properly re. i minds the President and the world in ' (reneral of the decisive vol taken on ! this subject by his organization in j December, 1915. !
