A notable gathering of former Al bany "girls" was held Tuesda yeve- ninjr at the home of J. P. Roberta on East 39th street when the Portland members of the Alpha Omega society of Albany had a reunion, a delightful affair. They were Mrs. Mae Roberts Blackman, Miss Merle Roberta, Miss Winnie Austin, Mrs. Tark Stalnaker, Mrs. Reed Dowlin, Mrs. Minnie Lug' ger Funk and Mrs. Zona Haight Young. Others were Mrs. Vesta Wal lace Fuller and Kiss Louise Wieder. Monday noon I met Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hawkins and Mr. and Mrs. Roberta of Salem starting for a lunch at Haielwoods. Miss Cooley, a former popular Al bany teacher, had her lunch at the same place as I did Tuesday noon She is in the Ladd school and has been here six years, making good. Met George Price, formerly of Al bany, while on his way from work at the Electric Steel Co.'s plant These men in overalls, covered with grime look mighty good to one. Many of them are getting into clover financial- Down in the G. X. depot at Seattle the other day, just before leaving for Portland, I had a visit with C. C. Cherry, better known by oldtimers in Albany as "Cap," and John Giblin. Cherry owns the Hotel Cherry at Co lumbia and 5th streets, now leased, and Mr. Giblin is a former Albany ho- telman. A pleasant visit in Seattle was at the home of Mrs. Ollie Smiley. Her daughter Virginia is a typist in an of fice on the 60th floor of the Smith. I visited the office to see how it seem ed to look down on the world. J. C. Gallagher, who used to be in Albany for the Eiler Piano House, and I met in the Hotel Savoy lobby at Se attle. He is one of the best piano salesmen on the road. Happened to meet M. S. Durbin and Mr. Nelson, fores rangers from the Siletz, while in Seattle.
