PACE Tva Daily Democrat WM. H. HORN 1 BROOK, Publifhtr Entered at Iht postoffice t Albany, Orf oo, as eecond cUm matter, BUSINESS MATTER la erdenag changes of address, sub scriber should alwaya give old ai well aa new addressee. Established i n I I 6 8 MONDAY. JANUARY 24. WW. MUST SAVE FOODS More wheat, more sugar, and more pork mutt be saved. This is the edict of the U. S. food administration, and the new "Home Card," wkich will be sent out from Washington within the next few days will outline a new schedule, with further restriction on the use of these three staples. The new card is to replace, in some 13,0110,000 kit chens of the United States, the orig inal home card which was given out when V 3,000 J housewives (signed the food administration conserva tion pledge about two months ago. W. B. Ayer, Federal Food Admin istrator for Oregon, announces that these new "Home Cards" will be ready for distribution in this state next month, and that simultaneously with the adoption of the new sched ule of wheatless and porkless dayi in the home, the new restrictions will apply to all hotels, restaurants, cafe terias and boarding houses. REAL PROGRESS America, Great Britain, France and Italv are now for the first time in complete agreement as to their big war aims. The smaller allies are heartened bv definite pledges of what their big brothers in the fight mean to obtain for them. Russia s recent hostility to her former allies has been modified a little by the president's attitude, and is likely to change into more friendly understanding and some degree of cooperation as the lesson sinks home. Thus it is clear that President Wil son's oronouncement of peace terms has been a notable success. The allies are now a unit diplomaticaly It remains only to bring about com plete unity economically and mili tarily. The allied governments are workin hard to that purpose. When it is effected, the victorious end will be ii sight And meanwhile in Germany itself we may be sure that the leaven of Mir democratic orinciDles and pur noses is working. Present suffering and dicontent tend to hasten the process, it may oe wii mc ferment of freedom will be found permeating the German nation by the time the allies are ready for their most effective effort. And when conditions are thus ripe without and within Germany, there will soon be a conclusion of the w,ar, freeing the world definitely from tear ot any rep etition of the nightmare. We are now moving toward that happy conclusion. PRESIDENT WILSON Hilled is the greatest states man and greatest 'diplomat of ancient or modern times. Pres ident Wilson occupies today a unique position in the affairs of the world. His leadership has been without a flaw. His statesmanship has been without a blemish. His tenure of office has been the brightest spot in American history. The Old World today looks to the stew for a guiding band. The hand that is stretched out to bleeding France and suffering Belgium is the hand of Woodrow Wilson and it is clasped in friendship, in respect and in admiration. America should be proud of ita President, and the World should be proud of America for its wisdom in electing a man of his attainments to lead them through the greatest trag edy of the century.
