SATURDAY. JULY 21. 1917. LIBERTY LOAN BUTON FOR NICHOLAS Nick Romanoff, ex-czar, must be a pretty good sport after all. Russia happens to be following our example with a "Liberty Loan" of her own, raised by popular subscription, and Nick wants to subscribe The fact that his own liberty is con aiderably restricted by prison walls doesn't deter him at all from contrib uting cheerfully to help clinch the freedom of the people who jailed him. He has appealed for permission to invest his available funds in the new loan, and begs to be informed how big a block of bonds he may have. He may soon be wearing a button juat like the rest of us. He can't buy any great quantity. Nicholas is no longer a Rockefeller. His petition reveals the interesting fact that his private tortune, lately one of the greatest in the world, has shrunk to $450.01)0. His wife's waa half a million, and his children each have about the same amount. Ap parently they are willing to put it all in the war loan. Possibly it's thrift as much as pat riotism that inspires the Romanoffs. They may have held a family council and decided to salt down what mon ey they had left while they had it. An emperor who has had his crown throne and other royal chattels tak en away from him may be pardoned for not wanting to carry even a paltry million rubles around in his jeans. Says a New York leader. "No one can call himself a Socialist who would hesitate to prefer the stripes to a uni form." And the New York World blandly replies: "Putting the matter as kindly as possible to our Socialist ic fellow citizens who have assumed this pose, we must say to them that ir. due course their tastes in this mat ter will be fully gratified." CUMMINS CATCHES MEM THREE AT A TIME Tom Cummings and family re turned yesterday from Newport. Cum mings reports that he has them all beat when it comes to fishing. -He pulled them out three at a time. Charles Carter and Mart Bussard fished one on each side of him and neither got a bite. This report is verified by Mart Bussard. Mr. Cummings made the trip in his car and got through fine with the exception of one hill. Here the family got out and helped push the car up hill. At another place he ran out of gasoline and had to go back seven miles after a supply. WOULD YOU WIN SUCCESS? Than Play thi Gam of Saftty Firat, and Play It Wall.
