Edwin Brown, one of our soldier boys, is visiting his parents. Palmer Crampton and Victor Hick man and iamily were visitors at the Crampton home yesterday. Farmers are cutting hay. Rumor says the list will soon he increased. Rev. Gilchrist, a former pastor, has been visiting in the neighborhood i'nd preached one Sabbath while '..ere. Marriage l.icen Licenses to wed have been issued to Wm. H. Cannon, 52. and Marie E. Bennett, 57, both of Shelburn; and to Wm. R. Currym. 29, a brakeman. and Clara Larson. 21. a teacher, both of Albany. NORWAY ASKS HELP Among the various national com missions treading on each other's heels in Washington is one soon to arrive from Norway. It comes to plead with our government for liber al exports of grain. There is only one country where Norway has a chance of getting the wheat, corn and oats that she needs, and that is the United States. The commission will be received with respect but with no great amount of enthusiasm. It isn't an opportune time for any neutral country to come begging for grain, when we haven't nearly enough for the imperative needs of our allies. And most Ameri cans will find it hard to see any rea- son why, in dividing up our small sur plus, we should favor Norway. Not that we have any particular grievance against that country; but if "the Lord helps them that help them selves," we may be pardoned for adopting the same attitude. Norway ' seems to have invited the predica ment in which she now finds her self. Norway has, during the war, ex ported large quantities of foodstuffs and war material to Germany. When Germany started sinking neutral shipping she made no exception of Norway. The U-boats have sunk nearly 300 .Norwegian merchantmen since the beginning of the present year. They sent 49 to the bottom last month. On one day of this month, five more ships were blown op by the Germans. And Norway has kept right on sending to Germany the nickel used in making the torpedoes that blow up her own ships. Norway cannot fight Germany, but Norway may at least be expected to resent the destruction of ber merchant fleet and to stop aiding the ruthless power that destroys them. She will have to show a different spirit if she expects help from us. Whether or not a girl can enter the business world and attain suc cess without losing her feminine charm is the issue involved in "Her Father's Keeper," a Triangle play, which will be shown at the Globe theatre today and Saturday. Irene Howlcy is seen as the girl who tires of motoring, dancing and gracing social functions. She pos sesses the business acumen of her father, a Wall street financier, and she desires to enter his office. He re fuses to permit her and declares he will never speak to her again if she persists in following a career. Bet his determination is matched by his daughter. She disappears from home and later emerges as a secretary in his office. A clever use is made of the dicta phone in the office scenes. The ob durate father, having declared he will not address his daughter again, uses this apparatus for dictating letters to her. The ninth episode of the "Mystery of the Double Cross" gets Peter Hale in deeper trouble than ever and the Masked Stranger is right on the job. Phillipa Brewster becomes more of a puzzle than ever and Bridgtey Bent ley seems to be getting a little the worst of the deal. There is also a comedy of merit in "A Finished Product," a regular bun dle of laughs.
