Bread sells in Detroit, Michigan, for 13 cent per loaf while a loaf of the same aize is sold in Windsor for 9 cents. W indoor is, in fact, a suburb of De troit. The cost of production is great er in Detroit than in Windsor, but Windssr is in the province of Ontario, Canada and the pricea naked in that place for the necessaries of life are under the Food Control Law which is in operation in every section of the Dominion of Canada. In Detroit and in every other American city no re strictions have been made to prevent speculation in food product and the cost of living is steadily climbing to ward the star. What is Congress going to do about it? President Wilson ha urged im mediate action Director Hoover ha plead with the members of the United State Senate and House of Repre sentatives for a speedy passage of the bill now pending and the inde pendent press of the country is clam oring for legislation. Senators Gore and Joe Cannon have made common cause and appear as the champion of free and unlimited speculation in food. They are the self appointed attorney of greed and arc demanding license when the na tion is demanding regulation. Senator and Representatives who expect to go back can no longer af ford to mark time. The Nation de mand constructive statesmanship and will measure the work of it repre sentative in Washington by the cold blooded yardstick of result. Pork. We had been warned to look out for German snipers behind the line, and sure enough there were half a dozen in the wood we went to. They had lain low when the place was first searched or else had crept in during the night. I came around a hit of mound right on to one just as he fired at one of our fellows, and we had him over before he could work off another round on ns. Then we started a little battle all our own, and for half an hour we were shooting all over the place in the woods. Two of them surrendered, and we found one wounded and pretty near dead, the other four were killed off.
