Brodie, publisher of the Morning En terprise, ot Oregon City, this morn ing. Mr. Brodie came down from Eft gene Sunday night with his wife and son. "After leaving Jefferson, the high way for six or seven miles is a dis grace," aid Mr. Brodie. "The road is soft and in places it is extremely difficult to negotiate. Fresh gravel has just been dumped along the highway, making it soft and muddy. 1 have a light car, but it sank down into the bottom of the road in place-, scraping the pan. and it was all 1 could do to make headway on low Kear. "In Clackamas county, where 1 live, we have been criticised over the condition of some of our roads, but we do not permit such thoroughfares on our main traveled highways, as you have here in Slarion in the stret ches referred to. Fanners who live along this highway and motorists who are compelled to travel ;t would be justified tn initiating a recall against county officials who permit such a condition to exist. Marion is a large and wealthy county and fa deserving of better roads along the I Pacific highway than your count judge has provided.' COLUMBIA COUNTY SECURES AGRICULTURAL AGENT Corvallis, Feb. 13. D. C. Howard of the Dairy Department of O. A. C. has been appointed County Agricul- I tural Agent for Columbia county and will report lor duty at bt. Helens about February 15. He will have an offttc in the courthouse. Mr. Howard is particularly well fitted for the position both In prac tical experience and technical train ing. He is a native of Marion coun ty and spent the period between the ages of 12 and 21 yean on his fa ther's farm near Ttgard in Washing ton county, operating a combined truck and dairy farm and marketing the truck in Portland. Mr. Howard is 20 years of age, and graduated from the Oregon Agricul tural college in June. 1914. Since that time he has had char of the colle dairy herd and ISO acres of land used for feed production. He has also tanght sonic and had charge of ex perimental work with feeds and feed ing. His field work has taken him to nearly all parts of the state and he has judged dairy cattle and pro ducts at many fair and assisted in the organization of cow-testing asso ciations. Mr. Howard is at present National Chancellor of Gamma Sigma Delta, a National Agricultural Fraternity. Mrs, Howard is a student in the Depart ment of. Home Economics at O. A. C. and will not join Mr. Howard un til June. A County Agricultural Council composed of the granges and other farmers' organizations and the county court, was organized at Clatakanie on Saturday, February 3d. This council will serve in an advisory capacity to the work of the County Agricultural Agent. The next meeting will be held at St. Helens on Saturday, Feb ruary 17.
