Friday and Saturday Evenings. a w 6 CITY NEWS 0 Convict Is Remembered This morning Jutle P. R. Kelly was looking over the local stores tor a present to send to a convict in the state prison. Judge Kelly sentenced this man who is serving s long term. Yesterday the JuJtre was surprised to receive from him a present that had been made bv the convict while con fined in his cell. at the Hewitts Mr. and Mrs. Hood Craven, oi San ta Cruz, Calif., who have been visit ing at the home of Mrs Craven's sis ters. Mrs. H. H. Hewitt, will leave in their car tomorrow for Salem where thev will visit another sister of Mrs. Craven. From there they will go to Bend after the holidays. They are making the trip in their automobile. Judge Hewitt expects his daughter and her husband. Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Btashnell. of Pacific University. Worrell, of the night police force, has just received a Krag-Jor-genson rifle from the Springfield. Mass.. arsenal. The army is now us ing a new Springfield model, but has not entirely discarded the Krag. which is only being sold to rifle clubs. The caliber is JXK and it is ;i powerful gun. Mr. Worrell bouglu the weapon for his own use and will keep it as a part of the reserve ar senal of the city police force. Carson Memorial Service On December 2 Judge P. R Kelly will go to Salem to attend a meeting of the Marion County Bar Associa tion, which wiil hold memorial serv ices in honor of the late John A. Car son, who died in Salem this month. Judge Kelly is on the committee with Judges Win. Galloway and Geo. G. Bingham, which will m ike the re port. Following this will be eugol istic speeches by various members of the bar. Junior High to Play This year the Junior High school will have a basketball team and play a schedule of their own. On Friday they will go to Corvallis where they are to meet the team from the Junior high school of that place. The team will probably be composed of the present freshmen team. Debate Tomorrow Great interest is being taken in the opening debate which will be held in the high school tomorrow night be tween the teams composed of girls from Albanv and Scio hih schools.
