(By United Press) Olathe, Kan., Sept. 21. Fifty arm ed men stormed the jail here today. They fired at Sheriff Carroll and smashed in the iron doors. The fire department was called out and hosed the rioters. Salem, Sept. 20, Oregon suifercd practically no loss from forest fires this year, according to State Forester Elliott, despite the fact that the tim bered and brush area owned by he government and private individuals and companies comprises approxi mately 22.000.000 acres. The entire damage from fires, Mr. Elliott says, will be less than $500. LasJ year the loss on privately-owned timber lands totaled $29,000. Oregon has 1J.5O0.000 acres within the national forests, of which about 10.000.000 acres is commercial tim ber land. There are JO.OtM.000 acres of privately-owned timber land pa rroted by the state and timber own ers.
