After a delicious supper, a crowd of
hoys surprised the girls, and the re
mainder of the evening was spent in
music and dancing.
A very successful ten cent tea was
given by the Ladies' Aid Society of
the Baptist church, at the Hotel Al
bany with Mrs. B. R. Westbrook as
hostess. About fifty ladies were pres
ent and enjoyed a pleasant afternoon
spent in fancy work. Also a very good
program was "given. Later refresh
ments were) served. '
Tonight the Esculnntus club will
hold a covered dish dinner at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Arnold.
The "feed" will probably be an elab
orate one as it usually is and after
ward the evening will be spent in

to the "Ncous Numphe" club by Mrs.
A. L. Geddes, who was a charming
hostess on Friday at her home on
.Fourth street. The affair was planned
by Mrs. Geddes to entertain for the
members of the club of which hed
daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Marquam, now
of Bishop, Calif., is a former , mem
ber. A most delightful afternoon
was passed in fancy work and conver
sation. The rooms were prettily dec
orated with voscs of lovely peonies
and other spring flowers. The hostess
served a bounteous and most deli
cious lunch to her guests, assisted by
Mrs. Willard and Miss Wills. As
they departed, the guests all agreed
that Mrs. Geddes had given them a
a most enjoyable afternoon, prov
ing herself a most gracious hostess.

be studied next season will be two of
Shakespeare' works, a tragedy or
history and a comedy.

ty dancing party Friday evening. The
music was furnished by a local or
chestra, and many neighboring towns
were represented by the dancers.
Junior week end at the University of
Oregon began on Thursday. At this
time the Junior Prom and many other
affair are given for the pleasure of
the out of town guests. Albany peo
ple who are attending these func

Ferry street. A pleasant evening was
spent in social time, and refreshments
were part of the enjoyment.
One of the coming social events of
importance is the "Old Fashioned
Social" which will be given Saturday
afternoon on May twenty. The La
dies' Aid of the Presbyterian church
will be hostesses and a hearty invita
tion is extended to all ladies of dif
ferent churches. Decorations Will all
be of the pretty old fashioned style
and every one is requested to wear
an old fashioned costume, and bring
ten cents, for that is all it will cost
you for this delightful social.

The Masonic Temple was the scene
of two big gatherings during the past
week on Wednesday night, St. John's
Lodge was host to nearly a hundred
Masons and exemplified the work of
the Master's degree. The team that
will perform at the session of the
grand lodge in this city next month,
was in charge of the work. Friday
night the Eastern Sstar was officially
visited by Mrs. Mary E. Houck of
Roseburg, worthy grand matron. At
six-thirty a banquet was served to
nearly two hundred, in the large din
ing room, after which degree work'
was v exemplified. The dining room
was beautifully decorated with bas
kets of scotch broom and larkspur,
yellow being the predominating col
