Mcdford Mail: Statistics prove tha there arc more American citizens lynched every year . in the United States than have been killed in Mcx ico in the three years since U:e rev olution begun. Would it not be wise to insure safety to American citizen in the United States before we go to war to secure their safety in for eign lands? The jingoes say that it makes their "blood boil" to hear of an American citizens killed by bandits in a revo lution-torn foreign land, but there is not even a flutter of their henrts when American citizens are ruthlessly mas sacred in the United States. Such are the sentiments of our plu tocratic patriots seeking war for sel fish profit. .-one years ago a New Orleans mob -to. c :.i the jail and murdered a dozer or mor Italian citizens. Less than a montli ago private guards shot into a mob of strikers, killing three and wounding twenty five at Youngstown, Ohio. The lives of American citizens are the cheapest thing about a labor dispute, yet no punishment is visited upon the privately-employed murderers though the victims are ruthlessly prosecuted In Colorado an entire union was in dicted, ostensibly for the murder of a guard, really for the crime of or ganizing. A union official, who war not near the scene of the murder, war actually convicted of murder because he was a strike leader. But there is no effort to avenee the loss of Ameri can lives when tl.ey arc taker ly the employers. Are the ignorant Mexican bandits, massacreing the foreign exploiters o! their country, committing any great er crime than the wealthy exploiters of the United States in shooting down tl.eir workmen? Therefore it is the law . and tiie should be obeyed no mat ter whether one thinks the law is right or wrong. The entire community should back . the officials in their efforts to see that this law against bootlegging is upheld. The officials have a difficult task, as shown in the present case, because the buyers of liquor will try to shield the bootlegger, who is the real criminal. This makes it neces sary for the officials to have the mor al backing of the community and which they are sure to get. - It is to be expected that those who wish to break the law will try now, while conditions' are just changed, to - see how far they can go. If they learn quickly that this community is a law abiding one that will not toler ate any efforts to break it they will either cease or move to places where punishments is not so sure to follow crime.
