SATURDAY NIGHT THOUGHTS Another week has passed, the first in a new year, the start for the grea uncertainty of events, a ler.p out into the darkness of time. The year starts with an awful war raging across th big ocean, and this country in tin arms of peace. We wonder what thi year will 'bring forth. The possibili ties are so colossal we hesitae tc even hazard a guess at anything. One thing seems apparent, though and that is, that the prospects o peace in Europe, are very poor. Just now there is nothing for a bisis for securing a visit from the dove, and there are few signs that the birc will be along very soon, and many to' indicate that Mars will continue tr rule. The actual warfare now is no; much, just skirmishing, with an oc casional struggle in the snow anc cold, waiting for the summer to come forth, and then the bullets will again fill the air. A campaign of tremend ous force is being planned, but. like most of the campaigns will not be at all as planned. In the meantime other, countries, not yet in the disaster arc preparing to sacrifice themselves. Of interest to this country are the doings of congress. This session will be of the most importance since the rebellion, the course taken establish ing a new policy, if it shall be carriei' out as some are endeavoring to do threatening the very foundatior stones of our democracy. This has been the week of praye all over the United States, when peo ple seek to get closer to their Make" in an effort to start the New Year with better purposes for right living It is considerable of a church affair, and greatly needed, for the churcl member needs a constant reminder o' his obligations; often as weak in hi. daily life as the man entirely out of the church, and the worse because o' the livery. The world is looking for a distinction, and when it fails to find it there is always bound to be criticism. One feature of the movies will have to stop, and that is the scheme of having married women unfaithful to their husbands, and husbands unfaith ful to their wives. The influence of it is bad.
