A pretty incident occurred on Dec oration Day, one that deserves a place in the columns of the newspa pers these days characterized by much selfishness: A German in his automobile, with his three daughters, took to the cem etery all the flowers his car coulo conveniently carry. "Now, girls," he said, "whenever yon can find a neg lected grave, without flowers, ;put some of ours on it, and they went around decorating the neglected graves. They had no relatives of their own buried there, so they thought of others. That's a lctson that must make us think along the lines of daily life The world is full of neglected peo ples, friendless and worried; even all about ns are lives bowed down with troubles. It suggests great oppor tunities for helpfulness, for present ing flowers during the lives of oth ers, not waiting for the grave; for more cooperation in business as well as in social life, for more love, less enmity. . CARD OP THANKS. The members of McPherson Post Ko. 5, Grand Army of the Republic, and Fair Oak Circle No. 1. Ladies of the Grand Army, desire to express publicly to the members of Laurel Lodge Xo. 7, Knights of Pythias, and to others who furnished automobiles for use in yesterday's parade, their sincere thanks for their kindness. The aging veterans cannot march to well now as in the days gone by, and they appreciated very much the opportun ity afforded them to ride in the an nual Decoration Day parade. The act of the Knights of Pythias in seeing that plenty of automobiles were pro vided for this purpose was truly one of courtesy which will never be for gotten. The kindness and thought- fulness which prompted the act are appreciated highly by the recipients of the courtesy. We also wish to express our sin cere appreciation of the splendid Memorial address of Mr. C. E. Sox. and express our sincere thanks to him,. to the high school band, to the quartette, to all others who assist ed in making yesterday's observance of Decoration Day an'unqualified sue. cess. E. F. But there will be other problems right along. With the fever heat pre vailing in Europe there are bound to be more mistakes and disasters. This whole war is an awful trag edy, and people of this country will do well to keep away from danger. Our people should not go to Europe. except for adventure. The man who wants to risk his life perhaps has a right to do so. If he gets shot he should take his own medicine. At the best the war is war. and that means a furnace most of the time. . President WIlsou has a level head. jnd it is to be hoped he keeps it that way to the end, undisturbed by jingo. The rain is evidently waiting for the pioneer picnic before quitting. When in a hurry And you want to get. No use to worry. Just send for a jit. President Poincaire doesn't care for a drink. He's dry. Poor Mexico hardly knows what to lo with itself. Uncle Sam will tell her. This is an era by the way when there is confusion a plenty in getting hold of the steering gear properly. Albany s Chautauqua will make a food 4th of July celebration, one of modern sanity. Daily Democrat by Carrier. 4 Year. STETTER'S FOR GROCERIES AND CROCKER V FISHER, BRADEN St CO.
