Los ing all sense of honor exhibitions of cruelty are reported horrible enough to freeze the equator over. It is bad enough for soldiers to murder each other in cold blood, but that's a part of the business of war. It is infinite ly worse for them to outrage and slaughter innocent women and mei. regardless of age or sex. This all reads just like the dark ages. I it all the trntiMr with Mexico of recent years the present disturb ances are being gradually smoothed at their should be. there being no occasion for anything else by peo ple calling themselves Christians, i ne Mexicans will eventually work out their own case, perhaps only tempo rary though, for they are a people of a disturbing temperament. U. S. had a little catastrophe of his own. the loss of the submarine by what was evidently an accident, over in the neaeeful waters of the Pacific This vessel sinking has become ao common lately that one hardly is able to realize the seriousness of it Albany's much talked about sales day got big enough this week to hare the governor with us. Often with Al bany people in another capacity it is always pleasing to have the chief ex executive in the doings of the city. By the way as soon as a man is plac ed at the head of a government, what ever it is, be becomes the head of all the people, regardless of party no more the chief executive of one than the other. If a Republican he should be treated just as well by Democrats and democratis papers as by republicans and republican papers. It ought to be so emphatic in this respect that it wolud take a private detective to know what the politics of the executive are, and what those of the people are in connection with their treatment of him. This aalesday is proving a fine thing and a worthy event in the life i and business of the city, deserving of all the attention it has received. The Democrat is heartily in accord with every effort made to promote the in terests of the people of this city and surrounding country. When our peo ple get thoroughly together there will he something doing. Among enterprises there is nothing that promises better than the pro posed fruit union, creating a market for our products, the lack of which on the oroDer scale has been the great' est dravback to development this part of the state has experienced. Wherever these fruit unions are properly organized and put in work. ing order there is always progress with a snap. This i such a wide awake age that even ships are being fitted with ears. so acute that they can hear the ap proach of a submarine a mile or two away. fi. .t.. itntii over. In 1 lie . ' r a" ii..
