PACE TWO ALBANY DAILY DEMOCRAT. THURSDAY. MARCH 11. 1915. Daily Democrat F. T. NUTTING Lctsre. F.nlrrcd at the postofiice at Albany (Triton, at second-class matter. THURSDAY. MARCH 11. 1915. CR. AND DR. Tlic matter of credit in liiiiinru. recently considered by the Albany Merchants Association ia one worthy uf consideration. itieaninK much in tl't commercial affairs of tbe cointnnntty A merchant i:i:.y make or break through it. Loosely carried on almost universally means disascr Carefully managed it me:.ns success 1 he credit aysicut is practically ncv- csary in the affairs of the world from the rmmint? of the government whether na'.ioinl. state or municipal according to present conditions, or in private alfairs. It is we!) it a man is able to set along without it, and the young man makes a splendid resolution if be decides to keep out o! debt during l:is life. Nevertheless i he branches out in business and goes into big thmcs it will be almost nec essary for him to secure credit, and much of the financial success of the world has been made through the credit system. It is in the everyday atfairs of life, the relationship be tween the local merchant and his home consumers that we are special ly interested in now. As the credit system i bound to continue we may as well be prnclicr.1 ai-d provide lot the situation, and there is just one way in which to do it, and urn it by being judicious rnd careful in the giving of credit, only trusting those who deserve to be tcusted. ss evi denced by their past reput; lion. THE COMING SALESDAY. It is only a little over two wcks to the coming market day, Albany's second commercial event of this char acter. The first one was sufficient of a success to justify more, and it i to be hoped the second one shall call for still others. The longer hey are held the more efficient they will be in creating a stable market for tiic things of Linn county. That is what makes business, even if it is only trading among ourselves. More ef fective it will be as it reaches out and becomes established as tin insti tution. There v.-ill be many things among the details for betterment, For instance the animals and articles sold should be cried from a raised plat form, where tlie big crowd, always in terested, can see the performance, for. with the business part of it, there is a decided interest in tl:e auction part, particularly when well presented, at was the case at the first sale. The entire corner where the sUe takes place should be cleaned up and made attractive. There should be a suit able place for private sales as well as of Ihe public sales. At the bottom of the success of the whole business is publicity throtiRh the press, backed h strict integrity in the details of the transactions. Special Dinner Served Every Sunday for 50c. S at ST.
