Mrs. Emma Newton returned to Portland this morning after a visit spent with relatives in this city. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Schmitt went to Portland this morning to spend the day. Mrs. William Montellius, who has been visiting with friends in St. Paul, turned home last night. The Woman's Section of the Com mission, of which Mrs. Lindon W. Bates, of New York, is chairman, has taken up this plan nationally. Its workers in the various collecting cen ters throughout the United States will, within the next fortnight, see the local grocers, arrange to have such boxes packed at wholesale cost price, and will place them on sale through out the principal cities.' The commis sion is gathering and shipping all food supplies without cost to the don or, and the purchaser of such a box need have no concern with it after he pays over his money .
