A Die Train Wretk,
Battlk CnEEK, Micb, Oct '20. The
error ot one' human being of a man who
crouches nffrighted in a prison cell tonight
led to the greatest railroad holocaust in
the history of Michigan today, and 26 hu
man lives paid 'the penalty of a moment's
nenligence. Two trains, both laden with
ps6engers, met in a direct head-on colli
sion on the Grand Trunk railroad at 3:45
this morning in the suburbs of this city,
and that the number of dead and injured
was not fourfold greater is due to tho cir
cumstance that the collision occurred in
tho suburbs of the city, where the trains
slackened speed. As it is, 20 charred, dis
figured and umecognizndle bodies lie in the
morgue tonight, and 27 marred and bleed
in c victims are trroaninir in I'ffony in the
charity hospital.
An old Story,
Washington, Oct 2. -There is excel

the senate, to take effect not later than
October 1, 1894, probably with a provision
authorizing the secretary of the treasury to
issue bonds not exceeding $200.000. 000 nnd
to coin the eetgnloraee now in the treasury.
This, it is said, would not bo considered a
surrendered by the administration.

One result of the agitation in tho passage
by tne house of deputies of the tin clause
of a bill re-establishing gold as the cur
