I hey say the chances for Tilman Ford to be elected to the legislature from Marion county is slim. The same is said about Sherman for Clerk. Charles D Drake, late Chief Justice of the Court of Claims, will bj lor.g but not gratefully remembered In Missouri as the principal author of the Drake Constitution which represented too many of the hatreds of the war. The republicans elected the governor and legislature m Rhode Island. The following is the vote on governor: Brown, republi can. 1:7,400; A ardwell, democr.it, 25,416. 1 he total vote was 64,746, an increase of 11,000 over the highest vote ever cast before. The ollice will not be vacant until 1S94, but some re publicans have raised a question of doubt about when Mr Chamberlain's term ex pires, and some voung sprig of lawyers desiiingan opportunity to exhibit them selves before the public asked the repub- ican sta'e convention to nominate a can didate for the office and to gratify them it did so. We trust the democrats will not be misled by this into making a nomina tion also. Mr Chamberlain has a secure tenure and the courts no doubt will so de cide when the matter is submitted to them. it is tliilieuit to estimate the number of republicans in Linn county who are morel than disappointed at the defeat of indue JJoise for re-nonunation for judge.
