T Cartey, a commercial traveler from Nashville, Term., was seen at a downtown hotel today by a reporter and asked about Un political situation in the districts through Which he travels. He said he was quite well acquainted in the central and southern states, and that during the past two or three months political questions were coming rapidly to the front "In Kentucky," he said, "the favorite-son boom has been exploded unusually early this year. Of course, no body doubts that Ken tucky is vety fond and proud of Carlisle, as well it may be, and, in certain contingencies, would delight to elevate him to the presiden cy; but the great mass of Kentucky people are attached to Cleveland, and firmly believe that his nomination is essential to the assured suc cess of the democracy. "Illinois has itsproper admiration for Sena ator ralmer, and wou'd doubtless be disposed to be complimentary to bin, but the first and sincere choice of the Illinois democracy and of Palmer himself is Clevelaad. Senator Talmer recognizes this and points out the em barrassment of his,'on canicacy in that it would take a democrat out of the United States tenate. "As for Missouri, it may be Cleveland or nothing. It comes as near that as any state in the union. The Cleveland sentiment is overwhelming. It comes out at every democratic meeting, and in every democratic newspaper in the state. "I dont think Talmer, Boies or Hill will be mentioned in any of those states, and the feeling of Ike three can be taken as .1 criterion as to the way the surrounding states will go It is quite a while ahead yet to look, and to offer an opinion as to the political feeliag in the states by stopping only In fhe large cities of each and getting information fiom a few of the busines men is a matter which should not receive too much credence. Marion county farmers have a ripht to ex pect a reduction in county taxes, There are good reasons for this. Most of the county taxes are paid by farmers and most farms have to be supported by the hard work, en terprise and gooi management of the fanner and his family. The farm too ol'en owns the farmer, instead of hi3 owning the farm. It too often owns the farmers whole family and taxes are squsre out into his net profits if he has any. There is a well-founded belief that too many bills against the country are allowed which shou'd be cut some. At thelast term of court out of aliout three hundred hills foai or five were cut in trilling sums and the rest went through for their face. In Polk county at the same term nearly twenty- five per cent of the bills were cut in quite 'urge sums.
