Collum had a very narrow escape from
drowning in the bottom near the Keenuy
place this side of ffioshen. It appears
that the man drove his team into the
water tlint overllon-ed the bottom from
the river Hien he found that it was
swimming his horses. He turned his
team around and started for the bank
when the wagon became uncoupled. He
made the bank with his wife and one
clii'tl, while ti littly 1hv was floated oS
into thb water. Luckily, a stranger on
horseback came along at just the oppor
tune moment and rushed into the stream
and saved the child from a watery grave.

I had been troubled fivt months
with Dyspepsia. The doctor told
me it was chronic. I had a fullness
after eating end a hetry load la the
pit of my stomach. I suffer d fre
quently from a Water Brash of clear
matter. Sometimes deathly Sick
ness at the Stomach would overtake
me. Then again I would hare the
terrible pains of Wind Colic. At
such times I would try to belch and

Illack Teas.
The basket and pan-fired Japan teas, as well
as the China tcai that may be included under
the general headiug of "black teas," gut their
color from tho firing or toasting process, but
mineral coloring matter is also frequently
used to give a certain desired commercial
appearance. The firing and the coloring, as
in tho green teas, largely conceals tbo iden
tity of tho tea, aud permits the use of the
very cheapest teas, to argue nothing for the
deteriorating effect of excessive firlug.twhich
must bo resorted to when a very cheap prod
uct is used and an extreme color desired.
Beech'a Tea (Sun-dried).
Concerning sun-dried teas the peopleof the
raclflc Coast have heard but little and know
less, although It Is extensively used where it
is known and understood. Wo are told that
when tea is so poor it cannot be sold at home
or safely shipped to the English markets, It Is
shipped to America; that we will drink any
thing. That may possibly be one of the rea
sons we have not been offered sun-dried teas.
They were good enough to send elsewhere.
Tho sun-dried teas being sun-cured, no
coloring matter Is used, hence nothing but
pare tea leaves can be employed; for unas
sisted by manipulation or coloring, all at
tempts at adulteration or the introduction of
foreign leaves or material would be bold and
glaring. That it is, therefore, sweeter and fat
more fragrant than the artificially colored
greea teas and the manipulated basket or
pau-flred teas, you hardly need be told. That
it is more healthful than the mineral-colored
teas, Is alo apparent That it is more expen
sive, Is alio true; aud that Is another reason
you have never seen It There it net so much
profit in it as there 1b in the cheap adulter
ated and colored teas.
About the Cost of Teas.
According to the custom-houe reports, the
amount of tea received at San Frauclsco last
year (1SS0) was 6,S40,137 pounds, and the value
IvW.ICO, or a fraction over ihc per pound.
The corfcumer, of which the reader was one,
paid for that l"c tea all the way from C0c to
1 per pound. In other words, for that t j56,259
worth of tea the consumer paid between four
and five millions of dollars. There are your
enormous profits, and there you will probably
find the chief reason why moit of you never
heard of a run-dried tea. As the sun-dried teas
have no mask, they are compelled to be abso
lute pure and of better quality than the
a'VficIally colored and manipulated teas.
Hence the margins on them are smaller, and
many dealers don't care about handling them,
tnd you know nrithing about them. But it Is
the object of this article to tell you where you
can get them, and what to asli for, and all
about them.
MI2eecha Tea."
"Beech's Tea," gua-auteed to be the pure
sun-cured leaves, is noiv offered to the people
of the Pacific Coast It will be a revelation
to you. Yon doubtless never saw any nat
ural leaf. Have your grocer break open a
T.fxkage. It will be found in color to be Just
between the artificially colored green and
the black teas, and the drawn tea presents a
clear, brilliant canary color, of delightful
fragrance. It Is offered to the people at 60c
per pound, the same price that many artifi
cially colored teas are sold for. But its guar
anteed purity makes it more economical to
use; for a less quantity, suy about twenty
grains, ;is required per cup. As there are
7.CS0 grains to a pound, there will be seen to
be between three and four hundred cups to
the pound, or at the rate of about one fifth of
a cent per cup. Its economy is therefore
manifest It is put up lu one-pound packages
only, In patent air-tight and moisture-proof
parchment, with the trade-mark that is found
at the bottom ot this article plainly printed
on the package. It Is sold in this form for
two reasons; one is, that the original strength
and aroma Is preserved; and second, there
can be no deception, which would be quite
possible if it were sold In bulk, without the
name aud trade-mark attached.
Caution.
Recollect that the margin of profit Is so
much smaller on Beech's pure sun-dried teas
than on the artificially colored teas that you
won't get It it tea by any o:her name can be
put off on you. Ask for
