V J Jones -caa bless his lucky stars that lie is not iood (or the tialies in the broad Pacific today, else tossed about on the beach, a sport of the waves, savs the Kugene (iuard. On Saturday, Not 7th, ho left Coos Kay for Florence a foot. lie was told that he could easily wade all streams between Gardiner and Horence, and easily crossed Three Mile, Five Mile nnd 'fen Mile creeks It was about 10 o'clock at night when he reached the Siuslaw, nnd instead of turning to the right on the line of the stage road, followed the beach on to the Bouth spit. Coming to the shallow water of the south channel, thinking it was another small stream, he removed his clothing and commenced to wade it. Witti the bundle ot clothing on his head he waded until suddenly he stepped into swimming water. His bundle went, and thinking it a small stream ho struck out to swim across. Fortunately the tide was not running out very Btrong, and he reached the small sand island between the two channels. Fortunately that night the tide was only an average one. lie shouted for help, walking back and forth to keep warm, until he became hoarse and exhausted, then sank naked to the sand, and recollection failed him until with daylight he regained his senses and realized his position, an arm of the sea on either side. He walked back and forth until about 0 o'clock Sunday morn ing, when Capt W A Cox observed him from bis residence on the opposite side of the river. He took him oft, half dead, and conveyed him to his residence when, wrapping him warmly in blanket.", Jones was conveyed to the Morris hotel at Florence. He soon recovered from the effects of his terrible experience. A subscription was started and he was soon supplied with new clothing. The bundle lost contained f42.5!) in money, also a fW overcoat. - Philip rhiSips Ihe g -eat in Ol be Ii Albanv tit . vu Uaje, bei'"ni'is on Mr niay, Nov 1U. Address: HARPER A BROTHERS, New York, "August r lower 99 For two years I suffered terribly with stomach trouble, and was for all that time under treatment by a physician. He finally, after trying everything, said stomach was about worn out, and that I would have to cease eating solid food for a time at least. I was so weak that I could not work. Finally on the recom mendation of a friend who had used your preparations a worn-out wim Denetictal re sults, I procured a Stomach. bottle of August Flower, and com menced using it. It seemed to do me good at once. I gained in strength and flesh rapidly ; my ap petite became good, and I suffered no bad effects from what I ate.
